It needs this computer to survive.

Check out this great article on Jalopnik.com regarding the Compaq computers that are required to service and maintain the incredible McLaren F1. This car was made at a time when software and hardware engineering was evolving at an unprecedented pace. Because of this, the computers they wrote software for quickly became obsolete. Apparently the software was designed to run only on these specific machines, so now that the cars are over 2 decades old, these computers are becoming highly sought after by McLaren so that they can help preserve the F1 in the future.
